The Shoos Music Video

"I would definitely recommend the make up artists from LA Make Up Academy. We have used 8 different artists from the academy on two music video shoots, all the girls were punctual, hard working and extremely professional. We were delighted with the make up application on the talent and will be using their services again."

Work Experience in Module 3

I am a student in Module 3 and last Wednesday 18/11/09 we got to go on work
experience! We got to go to Toni & Guy on South William Street.

We arrived at Toni & Guy at 11.15am and introduced ourselves, we then set up our work areas! At the beginning i was nervous, we had to do make up on 2 models each, but once i started it went really well and it was great to put everything we learned into practice. Everybody was really nice and made us feel really welcome and at ease. I really enjoyed my work experience and I think its really great that LA Make-Up give students the opportunity to put their training into practice!

Work Experience

I did my work experience in Toni & Guy last week. As we are only in our 4th week in Module 3 it was nerve wrecking as I have never done anything like
it..I didnt know what to expect. We were working to a brief so i knew what I had to do. When arriving my expectations were things I have only dreamt
of, it was becoming reality. There was a great atmosphere and buzz. It was
great working with people in the same industry and outside the industry. I
thought it was a great experience and the confidence I got from doing it
was great. My favourite thing from the day was meeting such a great team, especially the Toni & Guy Team and it was very rewarding when they loved the
make up I did. So I ended with having a great day and on a high. It was
brill!

Orlaith Farrel and her experience with Module 3

ORLAITH FARRELL

"I enrolled in the two month Module 3 course in  LA Make-Up Academy after my sister enjoyed the course so much. She brought me into model fr her a couple of times and i decided that the course was for me. Fridays are always fun! The photo shoots are stressful and enjoyable at the same time, and one of my portfolio pictures was since used in the DIT magazine.

My favorite aspect of the course was definitely fantasy an high fashion looks, but the diversity it offers is great, I can do everything from groom to geisha ! I also wen ton work experience during and after the course to events such as The Rimmel 'Search for a Super Model' shows, hair shows in Vicar Street and short films. The work experience for me was fantastic, it gave me the opportunity to meet people who have hired me since as well a building y confidence.

In the past couple of months I have been hired for all sorts of jobs such as weddings, television pilots and VIP nights for a major beauty brand. Also in Hotpress annual Una (my sister) and I were the make-up artists for an eight shot eighties spread for Playstation.

I have found my vocation in life and through  the raining and skills that I was taught at the academy, I know that I will soon get to exactly where i always wanted to be."

"I chose the four week - Module 1 course at the LA Make- up Academy as it was recommended to me as a great all round make-up course. i wanted to study make-up from both a personal and profession  prospective. On a personal level I wanted to learn the 'tricks of the trade'  and as a recruit within the beauty industry on a professional level, I wanted to gain experience in the field.

The course at LA Make-Up Academy lived up to its excellent reputation. The variety of tutors and their experience was second to none and now i feel very confident in every aspect of make-up application.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone with an interest in make-up or those wishing to pursue or further their career in this field. The team at LA Make-Up Academy are extremely professional, helpful and ensure their doors are always open."

Laura Wood, TV presenter

I remember the first time I had my make-up done by LA Make-Up Academy. I was about to go and shoot my first live presenting the ' TV Now Awards' and was unbelievably nervous. I was rushing around town trying to get everything sorted and arrived to the academy a little late and very flustered.

I was greeted by the girls with a glass of bubbly when  arrived and their friendly and professional approach and great ideas on how to create a good look for me ensured my nerves disappeared very quickly and I left there feeling and looking fantastic with make-up that lasted the entire evening- I have been going there to get my make-up done before a shoot and for any special occasions ever since.

Caroline Lehane, MODULE 3

Having decided I wanted to become a make-up artist I did a lot of research on the internet to find the best course. I loved the sound of  LA Make-Up Academy and, when I phoned, was invited in to have a look around and to sit in on an airbrushing class. I was really impressed with what I saw and signed up for Module 3.

The course began with the basics which was great as I didn’t have any past make-up experience.  We acquired a great knowledge of top end products on the market as we used make-up supplied by the Academy for our classes.

The tutors were excellent.  They are all working make-up artists who brought their individual styles and techniques to the classses. We also got to have a look at their own professional kits and discuss their favourite products that they use in their work.

In addition to our classes, we were offered a fantastic range of work experience. In my first week I accompanied a tutor to RTE Studios where she did make-up for an actress appearing on the Late Late Show.  We did make-up for the Dublin finalists of Miss Ireland in Lillies Bordello, several photo shoots and fashion shows & I even got a credit in Hotpress!

Since finishing my course I have had a great variety of work both at events  including Trinny and Susannah’s ‘Style in the City’and the ‘Ultimate Girls Day Out’, and one on one lessons and applications etc.

I got so much out of the course, not just training and skills but contacts, advice and lots of encouragement. I would highly recommend LA Make-Up Academy!

Amanda Sheridan: Module 2 and Ultimate Pro Course in London - April 2010

I recently completed Module 2 with LA Make Up Academy and wanted to learn even more skills. So I signed up for the Ultimate Pro Course in London!

Its a 5 day course, and although its an intensive course, the week is very enjoyable! I would recommend it to anyone, whether you just want to update your skills or even if you are just starting out as the tutors are so helpful and cater for everyone!

During the week, we learned all about High Definition make up for film and tv and how to perfect a flawless face, high fashion and catwalk trends and also make up for ethnic skin tones.  We also spent a day learning all about airbrushing! This was one of the best parts of the week, as its a niche market and great to have on your cv!

At the end of the week, we had a photoshoot which was on location in Covent Garden.  The shoot was great fun and the photographs will look amazing in my portfolio.

If you are thinking about doing this course, I say go for it! You wont regret it!
